Welcome back to Day 2 of my Growing In Unity Girl Week!  I’m excited to show you another way I use my collection of stamps from Unity Stamp Company.  Today, I’d like to show you some Bible journaling.  If you’re new to it, Bible journaling is an interactive way to study God’s word.  You can either just write your thoughts on a scripture passage or you can draw, paint, stamp or otherwise illustrate your thoughts.  I like to combine both methods.

As I’ve said in the past, there is something for everyone at Unity Stamp Company.  Some of my favorite stamps to use in my Bible come from Unity.  Before I start I prep my Bible page with a few coats of clear gesso.  I use my heat tool to dry the gesso before adding another layer.  Usually, I’ll do three coats to minimize as much bleed-through as possible onto the next page.  I learned how to best prep a Bible page from Rebekah R Jones — you can find more information about it on her website.

After preparing the page, I use Distress Inks and a Blending Tool to create a background. I highlight the verse I’m journaling and then I see what I can add that will help me remember this passage.  I used this gorgeous Phyllis Harris stamp from Unity for a passage in Psalms:

The sentiment comes with the kit, which is called “I Have No Fears.”

For another page, I used this lovely stamp by Angie Blom called “Angie’s Tree.”

Since Unity has some pretty sizable stamps, you may not have the room in your Bible or in your margins to accommodate the stamp you might want to use.  You can solve this problem by creating a tip-in, like this one:

The easiest way to insert these in my experience is to use Zips, which are long strips of adhesive made by the same folks who make Zots.  I love this sentiment and really wanted it for this particular prompt.  It was too big to fit in the space I had and I didn’t want to loose any of the scripture passage.  I used watercolor paper and the new Tim Holtz Distress Oxides to create the background, then I stamped the images and adhered it to my Bible.

Another good use of tip-ins happens when you’ve already journaled on a page, but you want to journal another verse on that page.  I’ve done that here:

I stamped on tags and used the Distress Inks for backgrounds.  The stamps used are “First Friend, Best Friend Forever,” and the girl with the braided hair and flowers is “Always Missing You.”
